This is a fantastic “west coast” vibe mouthpiece from ARB mouthpieces. After Arnold Brilhart sold his company to Selmer USA, he began manufacturing mouthpieces trademarked with his initials “ARB” until he passed away. This particular piece is similar to his earlier Tonalin pieces, and produces a centered, semi-dark dry sound a-la-Art Pepper.
This piece was playing a bit stuffy when I got it, so I sent it off to Matt Marantz for a reface. He balanced the facing and put it at 0.077”, which is a very nice “middle of the road” tip opening. He did not sign his work, as he prefers to keep a “leave no trace” mentality in regards to modifying pieces.
Overall, this is a fabulous vintage mouthpiece set up by someone who really knows their stuff, all for a decent price. A serious contender if you are looking for a piece to use for bebop or west-coast jazz!
