Victorian Antique Brussels Point de Gaze Duchesse Bobbin Lace Mother of Pearl Hand Fan
This antique Victorian era Belgian Brussels Point de Gaze Duchesse bobbin lace mother of pearl hand fan and box dates from 1870. It is made of an off white cream color handmade delicate sheer filmy linen stitch or half stitch with veined raised oversewn bundles of threads creating flowers, sprigs, leaves, scrolls, joined by braided plaits and has a Rose Point de Gaze needle lace medallion insert with tiny looped stitches, fancy filling stitches enhancing the flower, scrolls pattern. This fabulous folding hand fan has mother of pearl sticks and guards, with a brass ring, rivet holding it together on the bottom and a white silk wrapped rope knotted tassel trim with gold bullion accents attached on the bottom. The fan measures 9 1/2 inches long and is 18 inches wide when opened up. The fan is in good as-is condition with faint age spots, discoloration (see close-ups). It comes in the original white paper covered box. This is truly an exquisite piece of antique Victoriana handmade Brussels Point Duchesse bobbin lace fan art!
