Victorian Jenny Lind Brown Silk Carved Wood Palmette Hand Fan
This antique Victorian era Jenny Lind brown silk carved wood palmette hand fan dates from the 1850s. It is made of a scalloped petal brown silk fabric cut and shaped like feathers, leaflets mounted on sticks. There are hand carved, pierced wood sticks and guards, with a decorative carved brass loop ring, rivet attached onto the bottom holding the fan together and brown silk tassel trim. This pretty petite palmette style fan became fashionable during the popularity of the famous vocalist opera singer Jenny Lind, known as the "Swedish Nightingale" and might have been used by a lady for a fancy ball, dance or wedding. The fan measures 7 inches long and 10 inches wide when opened. It is in good as-is condition with several tiny pin holes on the silk fabric, one broken thread holding the guard which is loose on one end and is missing some silk off the tassel exposing the wooden dowel underneath (see close-ups). This is truly a rare and wonderful piece of "Jenny Lind" hand fan art!
