T
his listing is for a vintage Berg Larsen hard rubber tenor saxophone mouthpiece. This piece is from the 1960's or early 70's. The markings are faint, but visible if you look closely. It is stamped 100 2 M, with the M offset far to the right. The M indicates the medium facing length, which is actually the longer the two options Berg offered. The 2 is the baffle number (on a scale of 0=brightest to 3=darkest), so it is about middle of the road. The 100 of course is meant to indicate the tip opening, but like most vintage Bergs this one measures smaller than indicated. The actual tip opening measurement is .090". For reference, that is equal to an Otto Link #6.
This mouthpiece is in very good used condition. There is one minor nick on the right side rail, but it doesn't seem to affect playability. Other than that the tip, table, and rails are perfectly smooth, and original. There are no tooth indentations on the beak. The rubber shows mild fading and minimal scratching. This piece has been cleaned/sanitized.
There is no cap or ligature included with this listing. Please be aware that this is a streamline (or slimline) style tenor mouthpiece, meaning it is more slender than a typical tenor piece. Thus a standard tenor ligature will be too large for it. A standard alto ligature works well.
This is a fantastic player, in my opinion. It has a very robust tone with just the right amount of harmonics. It is not too bright, nor too dark. The tone has a lot of color to it. It speaks easily in all registers as well.
Please feel free to email me with any questions.
Thanks again for looking!
