T
his listing is for a vintage Brilhart mouthpiece for alto saxophone.
This one has a small font serial number (152067) on the side, indicating it is from the Carlsbad, CA era of Brilhart production.
It is marked "Hard Rubber" on the shank. The Hard rubber Brilharts can be divided into two generations, this being an early one, with deeply scooped inner side walls, and a large round chamber. These are considered to be among the best hard rubber mouthpieces ever produced. Not only are they finely crafted, but the rubber compound is extremely resonant. The tip opening is marked as 3* (it's difficult to see the star, but it is there), and it measures .071". For reference, that is equal to a modern Meyer #5. It works great for big band, small jazz combo, or commercial work when paired with a moderately stiff reed (in the 3 to 3.5 range depending on what brand you use).
This mouthpiece is in excellent condition. The tip, table, and rails are perfectly smooth, and original. There is no tooth wear on the beak. There are no cracks or other damage. The rubber displays slight discoloration/fading, but that in no way affects how it plays. It has been cleaned/sanitized.
