Description
Vintage handmade Guardala Branford Marsalis model tenor sax mouthpiece that was owned and played full time by Ron Blake back in the 1990’s. Ron plays in the Saturday night live band now, but back in the 1990’s he played in Both Roy Hargrove and Christian McBride’s bands, and this is the mouthpiece he used full time during that period. There are lots of Youtube clips of Ron playing this actual piece, not one similar, but this exact one! Brian Landrus sold this for Ron a while back, and when I got it I messaged Ron tomake sure that this indeed was his, and he confirmed that it was. It’s still in beautiful original condition. The cross hatch file marks on the baffle are very clear, and the DG and BM and serial number are visible but harder to see. My eyes are not good but I was told its a 3 digit serial number. Copy and paste this to listen to the sound of Ron playing this piece starting at 9:05 of the clip. https://youtu.be/GgELdy4rmLc
I can’t make it sound like Ron does so I’m letting it go. I think its slightly too dark for me, but its a beautiful sounding piece. Definitely go onto youtube and type in Ron Blake sax, and any clip you see him playing a silver mouthpiece in the 90s, it’s this one. It certainly has a nice history of being on some very fine jazz recordings in addition to the fact that its a rare, pretty, early Branford Guardala still in great shape with pretty much all of its original silver plating still remaining. It just has a little tarnish that would probably polish right off. Thanks for looking👍
