his listing is for a vintage Holton tenor saxophone mouthpiece. Holton called this the
"Perfected" model. It is a hybrid mouthpiece made of bakelite surrounding a metal core. These were designed to be extremely durable, and resistant to warping. In fact, I found one of the original print advertisements for this mouthpiece from 1924 that contains some pretty bold statements, such as "as enduring as the pyramids" used to describe this model! They also claim that it can be thrown across the room without breaking, but notably they suggest not doing so!
This mouthpiece is quite typical of pre-WWII era design. It has deeply scooped inner side walls, and a large round chamber.
The tip opening is very close, measuring in at just .050".
This mouthpiece is in overall good condition, although there are a couple minor dings on the tip. One is a small ding on the very corner where the left side rail and tip rail meet. The other is a flat spot on the frontal part of the tip. I'm not sure if these would affect how it plays or not. You might want to send it to a refacer for evaluation and correction if deemed necessary. Aside from that, the metal part is smooth, albeit tarnished. There are no cracks or chips to the bakelite. There is minor tooth wear, but no deep indentations, on the beak. It has been cleaned/sanitized.
