The Yamaha conglomerate of companies is in many industries. One of which being the musical instrument industry. Throughout the history of their instruments, they have made many mouthpieces with different levels of desirability for different reasons.
The more desirable pieces are the vintage pieces, however this is not always true. The newer pieces are great due to the consistency in the end product. Played by students, intermediates, and pros alike all around the world.
Yamaha has two current series’ of their pieces. The standard series and the custom series. These pieces have multiple different facings. In the Standard Series, there are the facings of 3C, 4C, 5C, and 6C. The Custom Series has factory facings of 3CM, 4CM, 5CM, 6CM, and 7CM. Each of these pieces of both series can be for soprano saxophone, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, and baritone saxophone for the saxes. The Custom Series for clarinet only has pieces for Bb and A Clarinets, whereas the standard series has pieces for Eb, Bb, A, Eb Alto, and Bb Bass clarinets.
The general comments for Yamaha Mouthpieces by the company itself based off the facings are as follows. “3C has easy control and good response from lower to higher ranges, even for beginners. 4C Helps obtain a well-balanced tone over all octaves, for professionals and beginners alike. 5C Facilitates a richer, fuller volume than 4C, with a greater tonal variety. 6C is an excellent mouthpiece for experienced players seeking powerful volume, strong tone, and rich tone variety.
